Water Rescue - Delaware Bay off of Woodland Beach

Sunday, June 29, 2014

Stations 44 (Citizens Hose Co. of Smyrna), 53 (Leipsic), and 54 (Little Creek) as well as DSP aviation were alerted for a capsized vessel.  Upon their respective marine units going responding Kent County 911 advised that an unknown length bass tracker had capsized with 3 people on board.  The vessel was reported to be a few hundred feet off of Woodland Beach with the subjects clinging onto the boat and drifting north.  Command 44 (Eric Neeld) requested that station 29 (Port Penn) be alerted to start a search south.  After about a half hour of searching 54Marine3 spotted the vessel and rescued the victims north of Collins Beach.  Trooper 4 (Aviation) had a Delaware Air Rescue Team member on board in the event that anyone needed to be air lifted.  The victims were taken to the Collins Beach boat ramp by 54M3 where they were assessed by EMS.  DNREC enforcement agents will be investigating the incident.  - Robin Andino
