On 2-18-2014 the Caroline County Emergency Center alerted Sta.100 Federalsburg for an accident with injuries at the intersection of Reliance Rd and Owens Rd. While enroute units were advised that the accident would be involving a tractor trailer and a passenger car with subjects trapped. Command upgraded the call and requested a Rescue Company and ambulance from Sta.87 Seaford and an Engine Company from Sta.26 Eldorado to the scene. When crews arrived on scene they found a tractor trailer completely across the roadway and the car underneath the trailer portion of the rig. First arriving engine crew went to work stabilizing both the trailer and vehicle. They were able to let the air out of the tires on the vehicle and to raise the legs on the trailer to gain a little more access to the patient in the vehicle. Crews used multiple Hurst & Holmatro tools to remove the doors and roof off of the vehicle. Rescue 87 used their front bumper winch to pull the vehicle from underneath the trailer. EMS crews went to work treating and packaging the patient. The driver was transported via Seaford’s ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital then later flown to Christina Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
The whole rescue operation took about 20 mins to complete. All crews performed an outstanding job given the situation and difficulty of this alarm.
