On 5-12-2014 the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for an accident with rescue at the intersection of Conrail Rd & Hearns Pond Rd. Command 87 arrived to find a passenger vehicle that had crossed over the railroad tracks at a high rate speed and went airborne and collided with a utility pole about 100ft down Hearns Pond Rd. One of the occupants was able to climb out of the wreckage and pull the other passenger out to safety. Rescue 87 cleaned up a oil spill from where the vehicle engine was dislodged from the vehicle. Both patients were transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Hearns Pond Rd was closed for nearly 3 hours and power to a large portion of Seaford was out for nearly 1-½ hours. The Delaware State Police is investigating the cause of the accident.
